They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it takes volunteers to run a pony club! Want to get involved? What can you do to help out? What are you good at? Here are some much-needed positions:
Parking Lot Steward: walk around parking area, make sure horses have water, that parents aren't tacking up the horses for the kids, and that everything is running safely and smoothly.
Snack Provider: bring fruit, veggies, or snacks to study sessions (be sure snacks are available to all groups).
Aqua Mom/Dad: offer bottled water to all kids, instructors, and assistants when necessary. Keep kids hydrated at camps and lessons.
Safety Checker: checks tack and equipment of kids before each lesson. This saves the instructor and DC tons of time! Must have a training session to learn how to give a safety check.
Assistant Instructor: for the littles, we often need an extra adult to help control kids or help leadliners. Big kids need poles moved.
Scrapbook Coordinator: Keep fun records of our club and events using pictures and glitter!
Photographer: in charge of photographing and archiving pictures of mounts, camps, ratings, or events. Can work with the Scrapbook Coordinator and the Web Designer.
Publicity Chair: send in articles or press releases to local papers or magazines for publicity. This can carry over to many forms of public relations.
Rally Trunk Manager: keeps and maintains rally trunk(s). Checks out trunks to rally teams or campers, and inspects them upon return. Makes requests to club to replace broken or expired items.
Camp Organizer: in charge of organizing mini-camps with help from the DC. Can come up with fun activities, outings, clinics, or visiting instructors.
Ratings Coordinator: sets up rating dates twice a year (at least), takes rating requests, contacts examiners, organizes rating schedule, and oversees the rating date.
Chaperone: adult responsible for a team at rallies or camps. Can be a go-between with children and parents. This position changes at each rally or camp. Required if Moonlight sends more than 2 members to an event.
All parents of Moonlighters should find a volunteer position that works for them. Pony Club Alumni are wonderful assets to continuing our tradition, and we hope to have as much help from them as possible. Members of the community are welcome to donate time or services to help enrich our club. Moonlight is a family! We take care of each other. Volunteers make it happen, and we love all of them!
